“I was diagnosed with JIA when I was 7, which initially, was very hard to accept. But over the years my condition has made me more determined to succeed.
“I have always loved playing football and have played for a local ladies’ team for the last 3 years, winning the league and Suffolk Cup.
“In January I decided I wanted to do my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, I knew this would be hard and push my body to the limit, but I was determined to complete the expeditions under the exact same conditions as my friends. It was very difficult and at times I wondered whether I would make it, my body hurt and I was bruised and blistered… but I did it and passed! When I told my Doctor she was incredibly proud of me and I know the pain afterwards was worth the joy I felt.”
